Rustic Baroque Greenway
Ride a bike to discover the most beautiful examples of rustic Baroque in South Bohemia. The basic circuit is 36 km long.
The area of Veselská blata (Veselí moorland) consists of several villages located to the northwest of Veselí nad Lužnicí. These have retained their original character and the owners of most homesteads maintain their buildings in their original style. These villages are Borkovice, Mažice, Zálší, Klečaty, Komárov, Svinky, Vlastiboř and Záluží.
Rustic Baroque is the name for the unique architecture of South Bohemia. In the middle of the 19th century, domestic folk masons Martin Paták and František Šoch created a new type of South Bohemian farm with a rich division of the facade. A typical building of this style is a massive farmhouse with two richly decorated gables, which are connected by an arched gate with a small door. Gables and peaks in the Blata area are beautifully decorated with rich outlines. The surface is often divided by the signs of decorative columns, complemented by arches, stylization of hearts, four-leaf clovers and meadow flowers.
